Neurosurgical pathologies

Neurosurgery is a specialization that addresses diseases or traumas of the brain, meninges, spinal cord and its coverings, the spine, and peripheral nerves. In certain cases, surgery is necessary to relieve the patient and prevent the aggravation of symptoms. Each pathology requires a highly specific approach, utilizing the latest technological advancements.

Here is a non-exhaustive list of neurosurgical conditions treated by Dr. Collignon:

SPINE AND SPINAL COLUMN CONDITIONS

Spinal conditions are common and therefore represent a significant portion of the diseases treated in our neurosurgery department:

  • Herniated Discs: lumbar, cervical, thoracic… (anterior or posterior approaches)
  • Spinal Osteoarthritis: lumbar spinal stenosis, cervical spinal stenosis…
  • Spinal Instabilities and Malformations: spondylolysis, degenerative spondylolisthesis, vertebral fracture, vertebral compression fractures, congenital malformations (excluding scoliosis)…
  • Spinal Tumors: malignant vertebral tumors, vertebral metastases, spinal cord tumors, spinal meningiomas, spinal schwannomas…

CRANIAL AND BRAIN CONDITIONS

  • Brain Tumors: such as meningiomas, astrocytomas, glioblastomas, ependymomas, oligodendrogliomas, vestibular schwannomas, cerebral metastases, pituitary tumors, … Brain tumors, both benign and malignant, often require surgical intervention as the first step in treatment.
  • Hydrocephalus: placement of ventriculoperitoneal, ventriculoatrial, external, lumboperitoneal shunts…
  • Cranial Trauma: skull fracture, epidural hematoma, subdural hematoma, intracerebral hematoma, cerebral contusion, diffuse axonal injury…
  • Cerebral Hemorrhages: aneurysms, arteriovenous malformations, dural fistulas, thromboses, hypertensive hematomas…
